Huckleberry Finn
The story unfolds along the Mississippi river, on a home-made raft in the heart of nature. Huck, a lively and independent youth, who has escaped from his violent and drunken father, joins forces with the escaped slave, Jim, and they set out to find freedom together. Along the way they meet a variety of colourful characters from the American South: the idle and uncultured Sheriff, the charlatan Duke Bridgwater, Judith, a woman who is beaten by her husband...
Although Mark Twain’s view of society is somewhat pessimistic, Firewalk Theatre’s version is an optimistic one where the values of friendship, solidarity and desire for freedom overcome racism, violence and intolerance.
This is an adaptation of one of the great adventure stories. As Ernest Hemingway said: “All modern American literature began with Mark Twain. Before him there was nothing. After him, nothing as good.”
The play has two actors and a sound-and-light technician. It lasts 1 hour and 15 minutes.
